Russian Firebird Medallion Pendant in Yellow Gold

This beautiful gold medallion pendant was given as a meaningful birthday gift from parents to a son entering the RCMP. It depicts the Firebird (Zhar–ptitsa), a legendary animal folk figure that appears in Russian and Slavic fairy tales. The symbol has very special meaning to this family and represents light and protection. 

I studied how the Firebird was rendered in paintings and Russian art and came up with my own contemporary interpretation that would ensure it would work within the confines of the medallion format while making it clearly identifiable as a Firebird. The final design was the result of a collaborative effort with the client and I think it turned out beautifully. Even though it is rich in detail there is a crisp cleanliness to the pendant - a lovely piece of men's jewellery that can be cherished and passed down.
